Report Writing and Testifying
"It is good to learn from your mistakes, but it is better to learn from someone else's." Today, 99% of criminal cases are resolved via guilty plea. Consequently, police officers are deprived of the valuable experience of being eviscerated by skilled defense attorneys in municipal court. Report Writing and Testifying provides guidelines, tips and lessons learned from 25 years of courtroom misery. This course will cover instructions for writing a good police report, common mistakes, tips for providing effective testimony, common cross-examination strategies, and suggested responses. The suggested audience is anyone who is apprehensive about testifying in Superior Court, anyone new to a detective bureau, or anyone who intends to make indictable arrests for significant crimes that may result in pretrial motions or trials.
